"She was very quick on the uptake and began running to us in order without being called. Clever Puppy!"

When I was a kid, I had a little Cairn terrier (like Toto in the Wizard of Oz) named "Spunky." He could do lots of tricks, and I never varied the commands--"sit," "up," "come," "speak," "lie down," etc. Pretty soon, when he noticed me getting the bag of treats out of the cupboard, he'd start going through all his many tricks--IN ORDER!!! He'd do them all in order before I even started giving him commands! This post made me laugh, remembering.

My parents always tried to encourage me to be active outdoors in nice weather, too, but all too often, I wanted to stay inside, reading. "Always with her nose in a book!" was the disparaging comment often heard (about me) at my house. And my mom was an English teacher and my dad was a Journalism professor!

I think having a dog is a great way to get a kid to enjoy the Great Outdoors. Keep these great posts coming, Jen!
